San Marco area, although busy, is a great place to be based for someone making a first visit to this fascinating and charming city. Lots of shopping outlets nearby, top end and touristy and plenty of choice for meals out. I really enjoyed my stay despite having been the victim of pickpockets on the crowded ferry to Murano. Be careful all of you. They are quick, clever, and opportunistic."
