Enjoy cocktails at the grand Regatta Hotel. Two women chained themselves to its bar in 1965 to protest against prohibition of women drinking in public bars. Get an insight into World War I Anzac history at Toowong Memorial Park. Designed in 1922, the park and its monuments commemorate the local lives lost. Walk along the park’s hilly ridge for sunset views over the suburb and Brisbane City.

Step farther back into Brisbane’s history at Toowong Cemetery at the base of Mount Coot-tha. Amongst the weeping fig trees discover fascinating monuments including that of Trooper Cobb who died from wounds from the Boer War and the Temple of Peace built by a grieving father for his sons lost in war. Book an evening Brisbane Ghost Tour and learn about the hauntings of the cemetery.

Head to the nearby Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens and Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium to wander through Japanese Gardens, discover Australian flowering natives and picnic by the lake. Take in an astronomical show of the night sky and learn about space travel at the planetarium.

Mount Coot-tha also has several bushwalking trails and stunning panoramic views from the lookout over Toowong, Brisbane City and the winding river. Enjoy the view with a drink or dinner at the lookout restaurant.
