"This is a nice little spot to stop in for a more traditional Japanese Inn experience for your stay in Aoshima. From the outside, it appears like a large house with a trailer on the property and a yard space large enough to fit a few vehicles. There is a sign at the front door that lets you know it is the Sea-Dweller Inn. The rooms are open Tatami with a table in the center. "Friendly service. The host ladies were very friendly and tried their best to communicate with us. It’s a local traditional inn so don’t expect hotel style amenities and rooms. Only complaint was the noise from neighboring room(s): you wouldn’t hear their conversations but their foot steps and door closing. Hope future visitors would learn to be quieter in such an older, traditional Japanese inn. But anyway the host ladies’ warm hospitality compensated for the annoyance. "

"We stayed for 10 days and it was conveniently located and very clean. I wished they had air condition in the common aisle area as the weather can get very hot (the room, kitchen area had good air conditioning). Also we had guest complaining about any noises as you really had to open/close door quietly etc...and some guests the very last day was very noisy until 3am in the morning while the door of the rooms, youi could hear everything. We got extra towels etc as we requested it, but they should...

"Our stay was unique and our hosts were hospitable and warm. A family run ryokan. The kaiseki dinner was also aesthetically pleasing and delish! Our chalet was very private and set in the midst of the woods. It had a private bath and bedrock sauna that looked out into the maple trees and bamboo trees. Great for relaxing after climbing Mt Aso!"

"Staying at this place gives more of a farm stay or couchsurfing feel than a guesthouse, as they only seem to have one or a few rooms. The owners take good care of their guests and are very friendly, even though they speak close to no English. The food is delicious! There are multiple dogs and cats living on the property. The house is very old and the temperature inside is almost the same as outside. Beware, there is no heating in the guestrooms nor toilets and temperatures can easily fall down...

"The entrance of the hotel might be a little difficult to people who drive to there because the entrance lane is really narrow and small. If you drive there, do not arrive before sunset or it's totally dark during the lane. Guest rooms are pet friendly therefore it might remain some smells of pets (for people who dislike animals), you should consider it carefully or you might be uncomfortable all the night even though it smells not too strong.
