"It's a 5-room 2-story building. The manager is onsite most of the time. The bed in a higher loft with a stair. Also a sofa bed. No desk. It is in an alley hard to find. Taxi to a nearby hotel instead (call manager for direction), and don't do map navi. Good location, just blocks away from a big shopping area and restaurants, and a temple. The lady manager is actually managing a traditional Chinese dress try and photo store. The only issue was there are some mosquitoes (was there in May). "

"Small boutique hotel in a very good location (next to subway, close to attractions). The hotel was quiet, staff were very friendly. Even the cheapest room was very spacious. It was superb value for the price. Only downside was shower had a bit of mould on the seals (more a design flaw as moisture can’t escape). "

"I had an excellent time staying at Soochow 1779. The staff members do not speak English, but they will readily use translation apps to communicate with you--and if you speak Mandarin, they will be incredibly helpful. The breakfasts are fantastic; every day, different Suzhou specialities (mostly different kinds of dumplings and buns) are served with congee, pickles, and fruit. The rooms are well maintained, though the building is, indeed, 240 years old, and sound is transferred fairly easily...

"The 2 bedroom 2 bath unit of over 1100 sq ft is an amazing value. The unit was very contemporary and very well maintained. It was like a small house with even a separate laundry room of good size. All appliances are top line and in good condition. My unit was a corner one, with lots of windows. You’ll have a great view since the hotel starts on the 40th floor of a 52 story building. Location is terrific. There’s an historic park directly outside and the building is in the heart of the busy...
