Escape the heat of the desert, and ski on real snow at Dubai’s indoor ski resort.

It may be hot and humid outside, but real snow and a lively ski scene come to the desert at this ski complex and snow park. Ski Dubai is a mountain ski resort-themed attraction with slopes, jumps and chairlifts.

There are five ski runs of different lengths and gradients under the huge 242,190-square-foot (22,500-square-meter) dome. The longest run is 1,312 feet (400 meters). Skiers and boarders of all skill levels can enjoy the slopes, and beginners can book into a group lesson for a fee.

Grab a pair of skis and glide, slide and carve through soft snow. Pick up a snowboard and challenge yourself with the jumps and rails at the Freestyle Zone. Climb aboard the chairlift to enjoy an aerial view of the slopes.

Ski Dubai’s snow is made when cooled water is blown out of snow guns on the dome’s ceiling. As it hits the freezing cold environment, it crystallizes to form snow.

If you have young children with you or you’re not a skier, you can enjoy Ski Dubai’s Snow Park. This 32,000-square foot (3,000-square meter) snow-covered space has bobsled runs, tobogganing hills and a snow cavern full of snow-based games. Don’t miss the March of the Penguins inside the park. At this free show you’ll see gentoo and king penguins parade on the ice. Performers appear several times throughout the afternoon and early evening.

When you are feeling hungry, try the dome’s two themed eateries, including Avalanche Café at the slope’s midstation.

Dressing warmly is essential at Ski Dubai since the temperature inside the dome is kept at 28-30 F (minus 1-2 C). Clothing and equipment, including jackets, pants, skis, poles and ski boots with disposable socks, are included with the ticket price. Hats and gloves are not provided, although they are sold in the equipment shop.

Ski Dubai is located at the Mall of the Emirates in the area known as New Dubai. It’s easily reached by car and has more than 7,000 free parking bays. Public transport options include buses and the metro. There is a metro stop on the first floor of the mall. Ski Dubai is open daily.

The ski resort in the dessert. Go just to say you have done that. Like Sky Dubai.

It's definitely a very bizarre experience. Even more so if you have skied somewhere outside before.
