"Upon departing from Tokyo, my younger brother and I chose this lovely location for our Kyoto stay. Even doing some research before our trip, I didn't realise we were SO close to Nishiki Market! This was a major plus in our book - the main drag was only around 6-7 mins from the hotel, which also meant our Tea Ceremony was close as well. The hotel is very classy, with gorgeous decor and several restaurants as well as spa and hot spring facilities. I wasn't able to take advantage of the hot spring considering my tattoos (it was expected, lol), but little brother said it was wonderful! We did not eat anything on-premises during this stay, so I'm unable to vouch for food offerings or quality but I can only imagine they were great. Our room amenities from toiletries to spring water were replenished daily and the room was very comfortable and spacious. There is a plethora of dining and shopping options all around Hotel Monterey and 7/11, Lawson's, and Family Mart within 3-5 mins in different directions. Even though this property is located right off the street, we had no issues with outside noise at all. Check out process is quick and simple! Be sure to give this one a shot if you're in the area - you won't be sorry."

"Location! Location! Location! Close to many shopping areas and Gion and a hop and skip to a subway. There also a wonderful Kimono rental shop nearby called Akuru! Above and beyond staff: I lost my JR Pass (had to get the green car one as I have pneumonia and cannot take smoke or smoking smells) and the front desk staff found it! All the staff was really friendly and helpful. Sure the room is a bit outdated but it was clean and loved all the little things they provided in the room like super fluffy bath robes, bath salts, qtips, etc. Anyhow place was so good we extended our stay and was able to nab one of the few ones left. Next time I’m in Kyoto, I’m staying at this hotel for longer than the 3 nights. "
