Relax at one of the least crowded beaches in Formentera and discover a quiet spot where you can enjoy the day without many tourists around.

Cala en Baster (also called Cala Envasté) is a small sheltered bay on the eastern coast of Formentera, one of the Balearic Islands. It has a rocky cove with calm waters. Find the privacy that more touristy beaches of the island may lack during peak season.

The views from Cala en Baster are quite impressive. The beach is surrounded by cliffs and the Mediterranean Sea is usually quiet and crystal clear. Take photos of the sand-colored rocks and admire their intricate formations. They are the result of the constant erosion of wind and water, which has sculpted the stones into many different shapes.

You’ll find no sand on this hidden cove about 500 feet (150 meters) long and only 70 feet (20 meters) wide. Instead, the ground is formed by pebbles and different size rocks. Find a spot to get comfortable and enjoy the sunshine. The water is calm and transparent, ideal for snorkeling. If you decide to snorkel, brink water shoes to protect your feet.

Cala en Baster is quite isolated. There are no lifeguards patrolling the beach and no restaurant or restroom facilities. The area’s privacy and few bathers give this Formentera beach appeal for nudists.

Few signs indicate the way to get to Cala en Baster, but it’s not difficult to find. Drive east for about 2 miles (3 kilometers) from the village of Sant Ferran de ses Roques to reach the cove. If you are driving, find parking spaces in the area above the cove.

Sant Ferran is one of the most centrally located towns in Formentera and is a good spot to use as a base for exploring many other beautiful places on the island. Local buses have several routes to Sant Ferran de Ses Roques. During peak season more bus services are added to help you move around the island. Rent a scooter to get to this quiet beach.
