"Wonderful Place, and better than most in the area. I had the traveler room which was fine, but much smaller than other rooms in the lodge. Clean room with some window sills that could use attention. Would have loved the hot tub, but it wasn’t working. Super good breakfasts! Get up and don’t miss out! The lodge offers extensive area guiding for all adventurers in the area. Highly recommended stay for those looking for a better stay than the typical hotel room. "

"Red Sands has been modernized since my last stay and is better for it. However, there is more competition in Torrey for higher end accommodation. The big let-down at Red Sands was the paid breakfast. It was expensive at around $25 each and we both rated it as poor. We were both served a large portion of hash browns that were running in oil, not crispy and it was inedible. Not what I expect for $25. "

Named for its use as a natural pen for calves back in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, the creek remained relatively unknown as a tourist destination until the formation of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, under the Clinton administration. Walking between mineral-streaked cliffs of Navajo Sandstone, hikers pass beaver ponds and pre-historic rock art sites en route to the paradisiacal pools. Trail Head: 37.794049, -111.414733 Trail Type: Hiking Length: 5.84 roundtrip Difficulty: Moderate The trailhead is located at the Calf Creek Campground on Highway 12, 11 miles south of the town of Boulder, and 15 miles east of the town of Escalante. The highway follows the route of the creek for most of the distance, atop the bluff to the east of the canyon.
