A CAUTIONARY NOTE: This is a Japanese whaling/fishing town. If slaughtered/trapped dolphins and whales bother you, consider going elsewhere as you cannot avoid it here. There are pens of trapped wild-caught dolphins right out the window. I booked this hotel without doing enough research as a relaxing stay after hiking the Kumano Kodo and after minutes of driving into town, knew I had made a mistake. As a tender-hearted human who watched “The Cove” and “Whale Wars” I cannot believe I booked a hotel in the literal cove where thousands of wild dolphins are killed, sold, and hunted. It was my miss, so I thought I’d provide this so that you don’t make the same mistake. It looks as though other booking sites had these types of reviews, but Expedia did not.
Otherwise, the view of the ocean and hills are beautiful, the staff are so kind and helpful, the breakfast is nice, and the outdoor onsen is peaceful. The rooms are OK, but could use some maintenance. There is a free shuttle to Kii Katsura a couple times a day, but otherwise you are pretty isolated at the hotel.
