The water pressure was terrible, many fixtures were loose or crooked, the elevator was very small and incredibly slow. The pool was a joke and smelled like cat urine. The restaurant on the rooftop charged us $50 for bad oysters that they refused to credit. They charged us $35 a day at checkout which wasn't on their site or the Expedia site, even though we prepaid in full, which is illegal to do.

Beds very comfortable, interior design and staff really nice. Early check-in was available at noon. roof deck was pretty, but pool is really just a fountain. Very nice bathroom and room. Expensive room had no natural daylight, no window whatsoever. Fancy built in clock in the bathroom mirror was not programmed, no way to see whether it was stay or night when you woke up. No phone to access front desk, no feminine hygiene products available on site. (super nice front desk attendant shared one of her personal stash with us.) Bed’s automatic lighting, triggered by motion, too bright, would wake up other sleeper. No hooks for towels or clothes in bathroom, faucet spills over onto the bathroom counter. With a few tweaks, this would be a great place to stay!

The Alma is a closely held gem of a secret. It's unassuming front door opens up to a surprisingly quaint hotel with dining options inside. The rooms are updated and cozy. However, we did not have a window to the outside so there is no sunlight at all. At least not in the room we had. Nevertheless the rooms are clean and the bed is comfy. THE SURPRISE PERK is the spacious rooftop with a restaurant. A beautiful view of the fort ruins and walkable to Port 4 Virgin Cruises. Worth every penny.

It’s a brand new hotel that is being protested by the houses around it for being a “bad neighbor”. While clean and new, the room was odd — inside the hotel, no windows out, but rather looking at an inner court. It was also very humid inside the room. Finally, the hotel pretends to have a pool but it is really just a big tub.

This is a beautiful, new hotel constructed in a historic building with limitations that can be done with updates. We learned this from the manager after many issues - nowhere on Expedia does it mention this. We had no idea it was so new - we like an established property and should have checked reviews more carefully. Our room was spacious and well equipped - but had no windows so felt very claustrophobic. The front desk said we booked an “interior room” - nowhere on our Expedia reservation does it state that. They were full so could not move us. The elevators were out of order most of our stay. This hotel had many older guests with large suitcases leaving on cruises out of San Juan. The front desk staff just watched as guests struggled to lug suitcases up many flights of narrow stairs. Assistance would have meant so much ! This is an expensive place to stay. The hotel is in an amazing location. The two restaurants and rooftop pool and bar were wonderful. The fantastic manager addressed our concerns at checkout when I specifically asked for him before leaving the hotel. The front desk staff told me he would talk to us the moment we checked in and were dissatisfied with our room, but clearly did not actually pass on our concerns as I asked for him several times during our stay. Just giving our experience for future visitors.

We really enjoyed staying at the Alma. We had a beautiful room that looked out at the port. Our balcony was wonderful. The room was light and modern with conveniences. The rooftop bar and restaurant was a space that showed off all of Viejo San Juan. The downstairs restaurants brought their own excellent food choices. We had a great experience.

Staff was super friendly and accommodating, but if you stay multiple days, just make sure that housekeeping takes care of everything in your room. Once you asked for the missing things they were immediately taken care of.
