The Dorsett is conveniently located, which is why we chose it. The reception is beautiful. Our room was less elegant, a little worn and cramped but that can't be helped in central London.
When we returned to our room after dinner, around 6pm, the corridor smelt strongly of weed. We went out later and returned at 10pm and the smell was overpowering. I complained to reception and we had to put a towel along the bottom of the door to try and block the stench. There was a notice in the room saying that smoke detectors would pick up the slightest hint of cigarette smoke or vape, so either this isn't true or they weren't working.
The bathroom had a large frosted window that meant someone sitting on the bed could see a person in the shower or faintly on the toilet. I was uncomfortable with this, but it turned out not to be an issue because the hot water wasn't working. I spoke to reception when we went down for breakfast. They said there'd been a pipe burst and they didn't know when it would be fixed. We were only saying one night and checked out 90 minutes later, unable to have a proper wash.
While I enjoyed pastries for breakfast, my partner was disappointed as his cooked breakfast was cold.
I appreciate that the hotel can't account for antisocial clientele or plumbing emergencies, but I'm relieved that we were only staying one night and not more.
