A great place as a base to visit Herefordshire. The food in the pub was all freshly cooked to order and there was a good selection of beers and wines. The staff were excellent particularly the bar manager (Cam), he was totally aware of customer needs throughout the pub. The Arkwright room was a good size, well equipped and clean however, the stairs to the raised bed area could be a problem for some people and the bathroom is downstairs. Overall, for us, it was exactly what we were looking for and the rates were very reasonable. The continental breakfast self served in the communal breakfast room was enough to set us up for the day. I would stay there again.

we were very impressed with the value of England's Gate .Plenty of convenient parking, the room, although small, was immaculately clean, very well and comprehensively equipped. there was also a generous hospitality tray. Breakfast is DIY but do not judge! The selection of food on offer is wide, a choice of hot drinks, juices, yogurts, cereals, fresh fruit and bakery goods is enormous. We also dined in the restaurant were we had good food at sensible prices. Nothing not to like about this place, we would not hesitate to return.

Staff at check in was helpful and I enjoyed the Pub atmosphere. Food was good at the Pub and the staff was exceptionally helpful when Expedia goofed up our reservation.

Extremely good value
Very nice room with comfortable bed, excellent shower, though fairly small bedroom with a standard sized double bed and no chairs. Free parking space for each room. Extremely good value for money. Premier Inn, Hereford wanted £110 more for 1 night(!) and would have charged extra for breakfast and parking! We had a meal at the pub that was OK. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Menu for the evening meal was limited due to non availability of certain items. Room was tiny didn’t realise when choosing. Self service continental breakfast was average. Staff tried to be helpful but it was apparent that they were short staffed.

Great stay with fabulous food at the pub
It was a lovely room in a converted barn which had 7 rooms I think. We had booked the most basic room but the bed was comfy, it was clean, it had a lovely bathroom, there was a TV with apps connected to their internet which worked well without any lagging (which happens often at hotels!) Breakfast was nice, a do it yourself continental with everything you could need. We had a meal in the pub and I have to say it was the best food we have had in a long time, the chef was on point and everything was delicious. The staff were short staffed so were running around a lot but were very attentive and great at their job as the place seemed to be running like clockwork! I would recommend staying here but make sure you have a meal as you would be missing out!

Decent room and comfortable bed, but hadn't been hoovered on our arrival and we found previous guest's hair almost everywhere in the room, toilet and bath included. Light fixtures only half-worked, WiFi signal was weak, the entire room shook when our neighbour used their front door and there was no curtain on the skylight. That said, it's a relatively cost-effective stay, we had a decent night's sleep both evenings and it's a short car journey to Hay-on-Wye, which is the reason we booked in the first place.
