The apartment we rented was roomy and had 2 bedrooms, and the staff were extra nice and greeted us with yummy coconut milk. I stayed in the auxiliary room (not the master bedroom) which smelled moldy (the walls were actually full of mold) and didn't have any window shades. Colombo is very humid, so it's possible that mold is a common problem throughout the city. The lack of window shades was a problem because the light coming through the window after sunrise makes it hard to sleep. On a positive note, the apartment was very well equipped, with good wifi and A/C. The surrounding neighborhood is quite dodgy, although we didn't have any issues walking around late at night. I would probably look for a different place if I'm ever back in Colombo, but given that we booked at the last minute and needed accommodation for 3 people, the bottom line is that we were satisfied with what we got.
