In this excellent, free museum you can browse masterpieces by Monet, Van Gogh and Goya, and discover a remarkable collection of Ancient Egyptian art.

Explore six centuries of European art and see works by Degas, Picasso and Caravaggio among others. Discover one the most renowned collections of Ancient Egyptian art in the world and look around the extensive collections of art from Asia. Elsewhere you can browse a fine exhibition of American painting and sculpture, visit the collection of armor from medieval Europe and take in a display of wooden masks from Africa.

The Cleveland Museum of Art was established in 1913 and has since become one of the most important art galleries in the United States with over 43,000 works of art. And, although this is such a significant collection, you can see the excellent permanent collection for free. You’ll always find some temporary exhibitions in the museum too.

Head to the Ancient Egyptian collection to view one of the finest exhibitions of its kind in the world. Sculptures from the time of the pharaoh Amenhotep III as well as cosmetic items and statues from the Greco-Roman period are on display.

Equally impressive are the collections of Chinese art. Discover 5,000 years of artwork from the Orient, with jade sculptures, bamboo carvings, ceramics and paintings.

Don’t miss the American art collection either. Among the 300 paintings is the first one the gallery ever bought: a portrait by John Singleton Copley.

Two European collections span six centuries of styles. Trace the evolution from the religious works such as The Crucifiction of St. Andrew by the Italian painter Caravaggio to the Impressionist paintings by the likes of Monet, Degas and Vincent Van Gogh.

You could easily spend a whole day in the Cleveland Museum of Art, so use its café for a little break. If you want to learn more about any of the collections ask a docent about the tours or lectures that are held on a regular basis.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is located in the University Circle. Parking is available and several bus and rapid train routes stop nearby. The free facility is closed on Mondays and major public holidays.

This is adjacent to Case Western. It would be a good idea to check the university website regarding activities; we arrived unexpectedly in the middle of the "Walk for the Cure."

a must see. Beautiful original building with a new addition, connected by an amazing all glass atrium. It was a highlight of our trip.

Great place to relax — tons of art to see in 3 buildings but also a nice spot to get some work done. I took my laptop and sat in the glass atrium that connects buildings at one of the cafe tables. Fast free WiFi, good coffee and food, soothing environment. Highly recommend it to travelers, especially if you need a break from conferencing.
