If you’re looking for a small, authentic, and truly welcoming place to stay in Civitavecchia, La Casa Sul Mare is it. This tiny five-room boutique hotel is a peaceful retreat just steps from the sea and within easy walking distance of the port and train station. Truly ideal for a pre- or post-cruise stop, or a relaxing weekend by the water.
From the moment we arrived, the owner made us feel completely at home. He’s one of those rare hosts who genuinely loves what he does. He and his staff were warm, accommodating, and always ready with local recommendations or a helping hand. He even helped us with our bags and arranged transport details without hesitation. You can tell that every guest matters here.
The rooms are spotless, bright, and thoughtfully designed, with little touches that make a big difference. Ours had a lovely balcony with a view of the water, and we enjoyed sitting there with morning coffee, listening to the sounds of the harbor waking up.
Breakfast was simple but fresh and delicious — pastries, fruit, good espresso, and a view that makes you want to linger. Everything about this place feels personal and cared for.
It’s not a luxury chain hotel, and that’s exactly why it’s perfect. La Casa Sul Mare has charm, character, and heart. This was the kind of stay that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a secret spot only locals know about.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
