The hotel itself is of a very good standard - no frills, but this feels 'environmentally' sensible in this day and age. But good, simple accommodation and friendly, efficient staff at the welcome desk. We've dropped some stars in a couple of areas though. Firstly, the access gate leading to the pedestrianised street was not lit on the Saturday night of our stay - it was totally dark, but you could hear people loitering there. Secondly, the smoking area directly under our window seemed a regular gathering place for 'non-residents', who could be heard asking for alcohol whenever a hotel guest came out from the bar for a smoke. Our window was open, on account of the heat, and this was quite a racket around midnight. We feel that the night porter should have moved these people on - after all, the hotel does advertise as having quite rooms. But we did enjoy our two-night stay, and will certainly use this hotel again, as it is very conveniently situated for the town centre, and well-priced, too.
